How do Indian nonprofits engage ordinary citizens who contribute money, time, skills, voice, and goods to causes they care about?
UDARTA:EG (Using Data and Research to Advance Everyday Giving), the first project of the GivingTuesday Data Commons in India, addresses this critical question. UDARTA:EG reflects two years of sector-wide collaboration to better understand and strengthen everyday giving in India. This unprecedented effort was co-created by a collective of 13+ organizations (nonprofits, funders, research institutions, tech partners, and more) working together to design and deliver research that serves the sector’s needs. This mixed-methods study surveyed over 300 organizations from across India and was informed by input from a Working Group of over 50 social sector practitioners.
By capturing insights directly from nonprofits, this research provides an analysis of strategies, challenges, and best practices for everyday giving via fundraising and volunteer engagement. The findings identify patterns, barriers, and actionable recommendations that practitioners can use to strengthen their engagement with everyday givers, building constituencies of invested community members as active contributors to impact and and social change.
